Sitting criss-crossed on a cushion on a floor of a sixth floor venue with a green plant wall and a beautiful view to the old town, I know I am in the right place in my life. With the rich taste of warm raw cocoa in my mouth I sing to the sound of a guitar and breathe together with a group of coaches/supervisors in making, a learning tribe who has grown and transformed together. This is the last hour of our last learning day of our two-year journey. When we meet in June, then for an exam and graduation.
Some people would consider this soulful singing in a circle experience a torture. Some might label it nuts. The same would go for the coaching/supervision learning experience also. I don’t care. I am happy, relaxed, content in my skin, appreciative and feel a sense of belonging.
Five years ago I didn’t even know there was a course like this, the place didn’t exist, nor had I any images of singing in a circle. Sometimes you can’t dream of what you don’t know that exists. But you can be open and curious and ready to plunge into the adventures that come along.
I stretch my feet. From the corner of my eye I see a groupmate taking a photo of my socks. I know why. The bottoms of my socks say “enjoy every moment.” My journal too says "enjoy every given moment." And I do.

So happy to hear that you have found your jam, Terje. Embarking on a two-year journey with people who begin as strangers and eventually come to know each other quite deeply is brave and rewarding. What we are willing to do in a group where we feel safe and valued is very different from how might interact in other surroundings. You capture all of these tensions well in your description, moment for moment.
ReplyDeleteFav lines - so wise I may be printing them out and hanging them up to read daily. OR maybe printing onto a journal cover or my socks!! "Sometimes you can’t dream of what you don’t know that exists. But you can be open and curious and ready to plunge into the adventures that come along. " This slice screams peacefulness!!
ReplyDeleteI picked the same lines as Sally: "Sometimes you can’t dream of what you don’t know that exists. But you can be open and curious and ready to plunge into the adventures that come along." You model lifelong learning here, as is further evidenced by your new career. Enjoy the ride!
ReplyDeleteThe key is being open to new experiences and giving them a try. Life is too short to hold back. Your socks say it all. arjeha
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a bittersweet moment to me. I’m sure you’re happy to be done w/ the course and sad to be leaving the group that formed during the journey. I love this sentence: “ Sometimes you can’t dream of what you don’t know that exists.”
ReplyDelete"I am happy, relaxed, content in my skin, appreciative and feel a sense of belonging. " I can think of no more certain clearer assurances that you are right where you need to be. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a joyful reflection of your two year journey! Love these words, "...I know I am in the right place in my life." I wish I could sit beside you singing soulfully in that circle. I appreciate your ability to be open, curious, and adventurous as you've traveled this journey. Kudos to you!
