another cup of tea

School. What school?
Some days into holidays and all the memories of the busy school life are lazily lulling somewhere in the folds of the brain.
Unbelievable how fast the first semester passed. I haven't written much about school this school year, and I am not entirely sure why not. I have the sweetest group of kids this year, and my team is the best a leader can dream of, my triple role (teacher-coordinator-principal) keeps me constantly learning.  All of it is in such a contrast with the crazy ending of the last school year.  Different combination of little and big people, different relationships, different demands.
I approached the year with hesitation, mourning the loss of summer, and it has turned out to be one of the best school years so far. Not sure I should say these words out loud. Things might change again. They will, no doubt, because they always do. I hope that any change awaiting would be only for better. Better for the students and the teachers. More excitement, more joy, more curiosity, more learning, more meaning, more thinking, more understanding, more kindness, more risk-taking, more action, more time, more calm.
Looking back at my posts from the last months it seems like I do nothing but sit on a train and read, walk the morning streets of an old town, take photos of nature, and drink tea, a cup after a cup after a cup. Is that really my story? When I chose "story" as my OLW2017 I hoped it would help me "to make sense of my life, bring some surprises, and let me become a better person." All of the above has happened. Was it the OLW? I wish. I doubt. My blog doesn't show me as a teacher even though school takes up most of my life. I thought that I would spend more time writing this year, but I didn't. I passed on the opportunities to take a writing course, a photography course, an illustration course. I chose mindfulness course instead. I feel that the word "Calm" would have been the right word. Or maybe "story" is my word and I am developing myself as a character. Not sure why the tea-drinking keeps emerging.
See how it happens.  I start out planning to write about school and end up speaking about tea again.
I just finished "The Girl Who Drank the Moon" - a marvellous book. One of the quotes I wrote down:
"Maybe we should eat something. Or drink something. Maybe you should have some tea. Would you like me to make you tea? Perhaps you should sit down. For tea."
Who said it and why is for you to find out.

Now I reached a dead end with my thoughts. What was I writing about? Something about school. Something about words. Something about tea.
I'll make a cup of tea.

  3. Just goes to show that there are so many thoughts racing around in our heads that one thought leads to another which leads to another and so on until we end up no where near where we started. Happy Holidays to you and your family.

  5. Perhaps your writing life is reflecting the many stories (outside of teaching) in you. Brewing away alongside your cups of tea.
